FA Cast: Hirosea Chirrell

A character reference for a broad, stocky, grinning Tartarun man with brown skin, short curly hair (black), and patterned, well-made clothing. He has his arms behind his back and is standing at parade rest as he grins off to the side. He has a round face with soft features and a broad nose. His pattered, warm green shirt has a wrap-around waist and a tied blue belt, and he has sturdy metal knee braces from a war-time injury. He also wears a round pendant necklace with a purple rune signifying his devoting to the goddess of Prophecy, Ialu. Most of his notes are transcribed below, except for the bits about him being best friends with Fin, Al, and Ameria; the bit about him always knowing more than he lets on, the bit about him being an active Ialu and Lio-teras worshipper, the bit about him loving giant cats and carnivorous plants, and being his brother Seah'ka's science buddy.

Born: 7 December 1881 E-10

Heritage: Ialuan

Origins: Hirosea Chirrel grew up knowing he would never be the most accomplished or most important member of his family. It comes with being the second youngest child in a royal family of incredibly powerful Dreamwalkers (prophetic priests and scholars blessed by the goddesses of dreams, voidspace, and prophecy). He knew this, and he accepted this. He would become Overseer of one district in his family’s province, and he would be good, but never great.

That is, he was content with that future until some very keen people showed him otherwise. A certain Talkian outcast and a haphazard kid-sibling or several help him realize that he is not only one of the brightest botanical scientists of his age, but that he is a capable leader and unbeatable strategist.

And slowly but surely, he begins to see himself for what he’s really capable of.

Fun Facts:

  • Has a soft spot for large birds and east coast serpents of all kinds (and yet, also adores large cats).
  • Is known for his bright smile and practical optimism.
  • Is, deep down in his very core, a very good person with bright morals and golden intentions.
  • Gives the best hugs.
  • Can kick a man’s chest in (armor included!) with a single direct kick.
  • Like being on the battlefield so much he retired early to keep his people and his allies safe. Is a bit scared of himself, and tends to be more “anti-war” after the Tartarun Civil War as a result. (Comes out of “retirement” for the War of Worlds, and proves to be a terrifying strategist even then. After, he really retires and resigns himself to politics and social advocacy.)
  • One of the only members of the main cast to have an active devotion practice to even one god (his are Lio-teras and Ialu).
  • See the reference sheet above for more!

Hirosea Chirrell starts off not thinking badly of himself, but considers himself (and his future) to be rather mediocre. He prioritizes the uplifting of his family and friends, who he views as so much more exceptional than him, and fails (at first) to realize just how special and capable he is.

His friends, who he so spends much time supporting, realize this and in turn do their best to support him. It breaks him a little, I think. But in a good way. It breaks him in a way that allows him to rebuild himself with the help of those who love him, and come out stronger and better on the other side

His life also changes when Razienne comes into power, but not in such a direct way as some of his friends’ lives do. His first and primary focus, then, is what the fuck came out of the portal Razienne opened a fortnight into their reign… (Starspawn, lol.)
